Class Overview

A Zero Net Energy (ZNE) building produces as much energy as it consumes over the course of a year. ZNE buildings are higher performing, offer superior comfort and are healthier places to work and live. California has set bold, new goals to achieve ZNE for all new residential buildings by 2020 and by 2030 for all new commercial (and 50% of existing commercial) structures. This class is an introduction to the design process, features, technologies (including renewables), and policies of NZE. It provides a broad overview and resource for students interested in learning more about this emerging construction trend.
